New Zealanders will have to pay an extra $4.40 a week for electricity when the new national gas tax is introduced on April 1.
The GST will also be charged on imports, which will be higher in New Zealand.GST will be charged in New York on April 15.
The new tax will be introduced by the New Zealand government on April 22.
In other news, the government has extended its stay of proceedings in the Supreme Court against an environmental group that sought to stop the Government from using the National Flood Insurance Scheme to offset costs of cleaning up the Canterbury River.
The Government will not be able to use the scheme to offset the cost of cleaning the river.
The Supreme Court case will now be heard in September.
The case concerns a decision to delay the cost recovery scheme by five years from March 2020, which was aimed at preventing future flood damage.
The government has said it will not delay the recovery of the Canterbury flood until 2020, and is not required to take steps to avoid a repeat of the floods of 2016 and 2017.
