Saints fans celebrate Saints win over Cowboys

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Saints won their third straight game on Sunday night and made history by becoming the first team in the NFL to defeat the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

The Saints rallied from a 21-0 halftime deficit to beat the Cowboys 35-31.

Their victory marked the fourth straight time that the Saints have beaten the Cowboys.

They also become the first franchise to win consecutive games in Dallas since the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

They also became the first NFL team to win three consecutive home games in the same season since the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

After the game, Saints coach Sean Payton said he was happy with the way his team performed.

“I think we just came out and played our best game of the season,” Payton said.

“I thought the defense did a great job of shutting down some really good offenses and shutting down a team that was really stout in the run game.

We had some opportunities to run the ball and got a lot of yardage, but the turnovers were just too many for us to handle.”

The Saints (6-5) are trying to extend their winning streak to nine games.

They had a chance to tie it at 11 in the fourth quarter, but Dak Prescott threw a pass that was intercepted by Jason Witten.

The Saints had their first timeout and then a field goal by Matt Ryan.

The Cowboys (5-8) were in trouble early.

They were down 24-14 early in the third quarter when rookie cornerback Tramon Williams intercepted Dak Prescott’s pass on the Saints’ opening drive.

The Cowboys were able to get a touchdown on the ensuing drive.

But Prescott threw an interception, giving the Cowboys a chance at a tying field goal.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Cowboys were down 17-0.

Dak Prescott hit Antonio Callaway on a short pass for a 14-yard touchdown.

On second-and-goal from the 4 with 4:25 remaining, Prescott took a handoff and found rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant for a touchdown pass that tied the game at 21.

On third-and/or fourth-and 1 from the 5, Bryant caught a pass from Prescott and put it into the end zone for a 24-yard score.

Afterward, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said his team had to play much better than it did Sunday night.

“We did some good things and did a lot in the first half,” Garrett said.

“But the biggest thing for us is we got some bad turnovers, we got a couple of plays that were pretty good plays that we couldn’t make.

I thought the defensive guys did a good job of taking care of business and we did a very good job on special teams.”

The Cowboys led 24-0 at halftime, but New Orleans pushed the lead to 16 points in the second half.

The first quarter was tied at 16, but a fumble by rookie safety Deion Jones led to the Saints tying it again at 17.

Dak was sacked twice and fumbled another ball.

The Rams scored the first touchdown of the second quarter on a 4-yard run by receiver Nelson Agholor, but Bryant threw an incomplete pass and the Saints scored on their first possession of the fourth.

The team scored three touchdowns in the last three minutes of the first quarter on its first two drives of the game.

A two-yard pass from Dez to Bryant for 19 yards gave the Saints a 17-7 lead at halftime.

But on the next possession, Bryant took a shot that deflected off a Dallas defender and was picked off.

On New Orleans’ next possession of play, the Saints gained two more yards and Bryant made a nice catch to give the team a first-and the Rams scored a touchdown to make it 17-14 with 1:17 left in the game with 4 minutes left in regulation.

But Dak Prescott took another pass and was intercepted.

Prescott was sacked for a 13-yard loss to tie the game again at 16.

The two teams exchanged punts after the Rams recovered Prescott’s fumble.

But Bryant recovered the fumble and put the Rams up by a score with 1 minute left in overtime.

But a missed field goal put the Saints up by one, 29-28.

The teams went to overtime with 1 minutes left, but Prescott’s first-quarter interception led to a Cowboys touchdown.

The second-half comeback ended in a field-goal attempt by the Rams.

But the Saints got the ball back in their own territory with 1 seconds left and a chance for a tying touchdown on a 1-yard TD pass from Bryant to receiver Jordan Payton for a 34-28 lead with 12:45 left in OT.

But Cowboys kicker Matt Bryant tipped the extra point, giving Dallas the win.

The win moves the Saints to 4-0 on the season and ties them for the second-best winning percentage in the league behind New Orleans.

The only other team to beat Dallas this season is the San Francisco 49ers, who beat the team
