The building next door to the station where the new Carnforth train station is set to open is owned by the Chinese state, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
A company that owns the property is not a state-owned company, and it is not registered with the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.
It also hasn’t received a license from the government to operate the station, according to the report.
That news comes as the Chinese government pushes for its first Carnforth station.
It will open its first train station in the capital of Chengdu, a major transportation hub that connects the capital with the rest of China, the newspaper said.
The station will be located in the building formerly used by China Telecom.
In March, China approved the construction of two new stations, one for trains and another for buses.
Carnsworth, the station building at the heart of the new station, is the second station of the proposed new Carnsworth line that will link Chengdu with other parts of China.
That line is expected to begin operating next year.
The project, which will cost $20 billion, has drawn criticism from some U.S. lawmakers who say it will create jobs for China’s working class and hurt the country’s poor.
As part of the project, the city of Chengdong in southern China will be redeveloped to house the new trains and buses.
