Google has revealed it will be building a new, much larger space in the Mojave desert to house the massive satellite station for the foreseeable future.
The $5.2bn project, to be called the Avorionsat Station, will be a major construction milestone for the Google-owned satellite maker.
Built in a space known as the “Apollo 5”, the station will be able to be used to keep an eye on the Earth for up to three months at a time.
Avorions at Space is a massive space station that Google has spent $5bn building and is now in the final stages of completion.
It is expected to be completed in 2019.
Google’s $1.5bn Google Lunar X Prize is expected next year to open a new commercial destination for humans, the moon.
Google has previously stated that it plans to launch a number of missions in the coming years, including a human mission to Mars.
The US space agency NASA has announced plans to send a crew to the moon in 2023.
